Subject: Business
Lesson Topic: the meaning of corporate culture and its impact on business decision-making
Learning Objective/s:
  • Describe the definition and core elements of corporate culture.
  • Identify and differentiate the four main culture types and their typical decision‑making styles.
  • Analyse how corporate culture influences strategic direction, risk appetite, resource allocation, implementation speed, and stakeholder relationships.
  • Evaluate real‑world examples of culture shaping business decisions.
  • Propose actions leaders can take to align culture with strategic objectives.
Materials Needed:
  • Projector or interactive whiteboard
  • Slide deck summarising culture types and impacts
  • Handout with the Competing Values Framework table
  • Case‑study worksheets (TechNova & SecureCo)
  • Markers and flip chart for group brainstorming
  • Post‑it notes for culture‑mapping activity
  • Online survey tool for a quick cultural‑fit poll (optional)
Introduction:

Begin with a rapid poll asking students which company they think has the most “fun” workplace and why. Link this to prior learning about organisational structures and highlight that today’s focus will be on the deeper values and behaviours that form corporate culture. Explain that by the end of the lesson they will be able to define corporate culture, compare its types, and explain how it shapes business decisions.

Lesson Structure:
  1. Do‑now (5’) – Quick poll & think‑pair‑share on favourite company culture.
  2. Mini‑lecture (10’) – Definition and core elements of corporate culture.
  3. Interactive presentation (10’) – Competing Values Framework; discuss each culture type with examples.
  4. Case‑study analysis (15’) – Small groups work on TechNova vs SecureCo worksheets, answering questions on decision‑making impacts.
  5. Whole‑class debrief (10’) – Groups share findings; teacher highlights links to strategic choices.
  6. Action‑planning activity (5’) – Individually list two ways a leader could shift a hierarchy culture toward an adhocracy.
  7. Exit ticket (5’) – Write one key takeaway and one lingering question.
Conclusion:

Summarise that corporate culture acts as a lens through which strategic options are evaluated and decisions are made. Collect the exit tickets to confirm understanding, and assign homework: research a real company’s culture and write a short paragraph linking it to a recent strategic decision.
