Lesson Plan
Grade: Date: 17/01/2026
Subject: Kiswahili
Lesson Topic: communicate factual information, ideas and arguments
Learning Objective/s:
  • Describe the three‑part structure (utangiulizi, mwili, hitimisho) of a speaking answer in Kiswahili.
  • Produce factual information with accurate content and relevant examples.
  • Use appropriate linking words (e.g., “kwa sababu”, “hata hivyo”) to connect ideas.
  • Demonstrate correct pronunciation, intonation and pacing while speaking.
  • Deliver a short spoken response (1‑2 minutes) that meets the assessment criteria.
Materials Needed:
  • Projector and screen
  • Whiteboard and markers
  • Printed handouts with sample questions and rubric
  • Audio recorder or smartphones for self‑recording
  • Cue cards with linking connectors
  • Timer
Introduction:

Begin with a quick poll: “What recent news story would you like to talk about?” Use responses to remind students of the need to present factual information. Review the three‑part speaking structure they have previously learned. Explain that today they will practise delivering a clear, well‑structured argument and will be assessed against the IGCSE criteria.

Lesson Structure:
  1. Do‑Now (5'): Students write a brief outline (introduction, two body points, conclusion) for a given prompt.
  2. Mini‑lecture (10'): Teacher revisits the answer structure and introduces 5 key linking words.
  3. Modelled Answer (12'): Teacher delivers a sample response while projecting a flowchart; class analyses accuracy, cohesion and pronunciation.
  4. Guided Pair Practice (15'): Pairs choose a new question, draft their outline, and rehearse their answer, recording it on a phone.
  5. Peer Feedback (10'): Using the rubric, partners give constructive feedback on content, language and delivery.
  6. Whole‑Class Share (5'): Two volunteers present their recorded excerpts; class highlights strengths.
  7. Reflection (3'): Students note one personal improvement goal on a sticky note.
Conclusion:

Recap the importance of a clear structure, accurate facts and effective connectors. For the exit ticket, each student writes one linking phrase they will use tomorrow and one tip for better intonation. Homework: prepare a 1‑minute spoken answer to a new question and bring a recording for the next lesson.
