Date: 04/03/2026 |
| Subject: Art and Design |
| Lesson Topic: select, review and refine work throughout the process to produce a personal and resolved response |
Learning Objective/s:
- Analyse textile properties and relate them to design concepts.
- Develop a design brief and generate iterative sketches and prototypes.
- Critically evaluate and refine work using peer and self‑assessment.
- Produce a finished garment with a clear personal response and artist’s statement.
|
Materials Needed:
- Mood‑board templates or digital collage tool.
- Fabric swatches (natural & synthetic fibres).
- Sketchbooks, pencils, coloured markers.
- Pattern drafting paper, rulers, and French curves.
- Sewing machines or hand‑sewing kits.
- Dyeing/printing supplies (fabric dye, brushes).
- Projector and screen for presentations.
|
Introduction:
Begin with a quick show of iconic streetwear pieces to spark interest. Review previous work on fabric properties and remind students of the design brief requirements. Explain that today they will iteratively develop a sustainable jacket, with success measured by a completed prototype and reflective statement.
|
Lesson Structure:
- Do‑Now (5') – students sort provided fabric samples and note properties.
- Research & Mood‑Board (10') – create a digital or physical board focusing on sustainability and gender‑neutral trends.
- Brief Development (10') – write a concise design brief outlining audience, purpose, and constraints.
- Sketching & Ideation (15') – rapid thumbnail sketches (5') then select two ideas for detailed flats.
- Prototype & Review (20') – construct a basic bodice block, stitch a sample jacket section, then conduct a peer‑review carousel using the checklist.
- Refinement & Presentation Prep (10') – adjust pattern/fabric choices based on feedback, finish the garment, and prepare an artist’s statement and display.
|
Conclusion:
Gather as a group to recap the key refinements made and how they address the brief. Students complete an exit ticket describing one change that most improved their design. Assign homework to write a 300‑word reflection linking material choices to personal expression.
