Grade: Date: 17/01/2026
Subject: Kiswahili
Lesson Topic: identify and select correct details from simple texts
Learning Objective/s:
  • Identify key details (names, dates, locations, numbers) in simple Kiswahili texts.
  • Apply reading strategies—headings, punctuation cues, and keyword scanning—to locate information.
  • Select the correct answer from multiple‑choice options using process of elimination.
  • Reference line numbers accurately when justifying chosen answers.
Materials Needed:
  • Projector or interactive whiteboard
  • Printed passage with line numbers
  • Worksheet with multiple‑choice questions
  • Answer key
  • Highlighters and pens
  • Whiteboard and markers
Introduction:
Begin with a brief discussion about everyday situations where we need to find specific information in a text, such as travel plans. Review how headings, punctuation and key words help locate details. Explain that by the end of the lesson students will be able to pinpoint and choose the correct detail from a short passage.
Lesson Structure:
  1. Do‑now (5'): Students read the travel paragraph and underline names, dates, and places.
  2. Teacher modelling (10'): Demonstrate the five reading strategies using the sample text on the board.
  3. Guided practice (15'): In pairs, answer the multiple‑choice questions, reference line numbers, and discuss elimination.
  4. Whole‑class feedback (10'): Review each question, confirm correct answers, clarify misconceptions.
  5. Independent practice (10'): Students complete a similar worksheet individually.
  6. Exit ticket (5'): Write one useful strategy and a correct detail from the passage.
Conclusion:
We reviewed how to use headings, punctuation and key words to locate important details and practiced selecting the right answer. For the exit ticket, each student noted their preferred strategy and a correct detail from the passage. Homework: complete a new reading passage at home and bring the answered worksheet tomorrow.
