Lesson Plan
Grade: Date: 17/01/2026
Subject: Kiswahili
Lesson Topic: give a short, clear presentation without a script on a topic of their choice
Learning Objective/s:
  • Describe the three‑part structure (Utangulizi – Maudhui – Hitimisho) of a short oral presentation in Kiswahili.
  • Apply correct verb forms, connectors, proverbs and idioms to express ideas clearly.
  • Demonstrate effective delivery techniques (posture, eye contact, pacing) without using a script.
  • Self‑evaluate the presentation using the Cambridge IGCSE rubric criteria.
Materials Needed:
  • Projector or whiteboard
  • Printed pre‑presentation checklist
  • Timer/stopwatch
  • Audio recorder or mobile phone (optional)
  • List of suggested topics
  • Teacher’s feedback rubric (Cambridge IGCSE 0262)
Introduction:

Begin by asking learners to recall a moment they spoke in front of others without notes. Connect this to their existing knowledge of Kiswahili grammar and oral skills. Explain that by the end of the lesson they will deliver a 2‑3 minute presentation using a clear structure and meet the success criteria displayed on the board.

Lesson Structure:
  1. Do‑now (5'): Students write down a personal or social topic they could present on.
  2. Mini‑lecture (10'): Explain the Utangulizi‑Maudhui‑Hitimisho framework and key language features (verbs, connectors, proverbs).
  3. Research & outline (10'): In pairs, students select key vocabulary, proverbs and draft a brief outline on paper.
  4. Practice (10'): Pair rehearsal – speak aloud, optionally record, and give peer feedback using the checklist.
  5. Teacher modelling (10'): Selected students present to the class; teacher provides rubric‑based feedback.
  6. Self‑assessment & exit ticket (5'): Learners rate their confidence and note one improvement for next time.
Conclusion:

Recap the three‑part structure and the language tools that make a presentation persuasive. Students complete an exit ticket stating their strongest area and one target for revision. For homework, they refine their presentation and upload a one‑minute video recording for final teacher assessment.
