Lesson Plan
Grade: Date: 17/01/2026
Subject: Drama
Lesson Topic: Public and private sector roles, government involvement, international organisations
Learning Objective/s:
  • Describe the roles of the public and private sectors in the travel and tourism industry.
  • Explain how government policies and international organisations influence tourism.
  • Analyse how sector dynamics can be used to create authentic drama settings and conflict.
  • Apply this knowledge to write a short scene that reflects tourism‑related themes.
Materials Needed:
  • Projector and screen
  • Whiteboard and markers
  • Printed handouts of the sector comparison table
  • Diagram flowchart of sector interactions
  • Sample script excerpts
  • Sticky notes for group brainstorming
Introduction:

Show a short video clip of a bustling airport to capture interest. Ask students what they already know about how tourism is organised and which bodies are involved. Explain that by the end of the lesson they will be able to identify sector roles and use them to create realistic drama scenes.

Lesson Structure:
  1. Do‑now (5') – Students create a quick mind‑map of possible tourism settings for drama.
  2. Mini‑lecture with slides (10') – Overview of public vs. private sector functions, government mechanisms, and key international organisations.
  3. Group analysis (15') – In small groups examine the comparison table, discuss how each sector can shape characters and conflict.
  4. Creative task (20') – Pairs write a 150‑word scene set in a tourism venue (e.g., hotel lobby) that incorporates at least one public‑sector influence and one private‑sector motive.
  5. Share & feedback (10') – Groups perform excerpts; teacher highlights achievement of objectives and offers corrective feedback.
Conclusion:

Recap the main ways public policy, private profit motives, and international bodies can generate drama tension. For the exit ticket, have each student write one example of a government policy that could create conflict in a scene. Assign homework to research a recent tourism policy and draft a short monologue from the perspective of a stakeholder affected by it.
