Lesson Plan
Grade: Date: 17/01/2026
Subject: Business
Lesson Topic: ways in which employees can participate in the management and control of business activity
Learning Objective/s:
  • Describe at least three methods employees can use to participate in the management and control of business activity.
  • Explain how employee participation influences motivation and organisational performance.
  • Evaluate the suitability of different participation methods for a given business context.
  • Design a basic implementation plan for a participation programme, including objectives, communication and evaluation.
Materials Needed:
  • Projector and screen
  • Whiteboard and markers
  • Printed handout summarising participation methods
  • Case‑study worksheets
  • Sticky notes or index cards
  • Laptop for teacher demonstration
Introduction:
Begin with a quick poll: ask students to raise their hand if they have ever contributed an idea at work or school. Link this to the concept that employee participation can boost motivation and performance. Explain that today they will explore how staff can take part in managing and controlling business activities and will be able to identify suitable methods and design a simple participation plan.
Lesson Structure:
  1. Do‑now (5’) – Students write one personal experience of contributing an idea; share briefly. (Check understanding)
  2. Mini‑lecture (10’) – Define employee participation, its importance, and overview of common methods using slides.
  3. Group activity (15’) – In small groups, analyse a case study and match appropriate participation methods; present findings.
  4. Whole‑class discussion (10’) – Compare benefits and limitations; teacher clarifies misconceptions.
  5. Implementation planning (15’) – Groups create a brief participation programme outline (objectives, method, communication, evaluation) using a worksheet.
  6. Plenary (5’) – Groups share key points; teacher summarises key take‑aways.
  7. Exit ticket (5’) – Students write one method they would recommend and why.
Conclusion:
Recap the main participation methods and their impact on motivation and performance. Ask students to complete an exit ticket stating which method they would implement in a real business and justify their choice. Assign homework to research a real‑world example of employee participation and prepare a short summary for the next lesson.
