Date: 05/03/2026 |
| Subject: Art and Design |
| Lesson Topic: effectively use a wide range of resources and use the information to develop their practice |
Learning Objective/s:
- Describe the main categories of visual and written resources and explain their relevance to artistic practice.
- Evaluate the credibility, relevance and bias of research sources.
- Apply research findings to generate exploratory sketches, material selections and digital thumbnails.
- Document and reflect on how selected resources influence decisions throughout the creation process.
|
Materials Needed:
- Projector or interactive whiteboard
- Printed worksheets with sample resources (images, excerpts)
- Art books, museum catalogues, online gallery print‑outs
- Sketchbooks and drawing pencils
- Colour swatches / material samples
- Graphic tablets or laptops with internet access
- Reflective journals or process log sheets
|
Introduction:
Begin with a brief slideshow of famous artists who drew on diverse resources to spark interest. Ask learners to recall a recent research activity and what they discovered. Explain that today they will learn to select, evaluate and embed resources purposefully, with success measured by a clear research‑to‑creation link in their journals.
|
Lesson Structure:
- Do‑now (5'): Quick mind‑map of resources they have used before.
- Mini‑lecture (10'): Overview of resource categories and criteria for critical evaluation.
- Group analysis (15'): In small groups, examine provided sample resources, annotate strengths and limitations.
- Research planning (10'): Individually choose a personal theme and list 3–4 specific resources to investigate.
- Exploratory sketching (20'): Produce thumbnail studies or digital thumbnails based on the chosen resources.
- Reflective documentation (10'): Write a brief journal entry linking each sketch decision to a specific resource.
- Peer feedback (5'): Share sketches, discuss how resources shaped ideas, and note improvement points.
- Recap & next steps (5'): Teacher highlights key take‑aways and outlines homework.
|
Conclusion:
Summarise how effective resource use creates a strong research‑driven practice. For the exit ticket, each student writes one resource they will explore further and why it is valuable. Homework: develop a small‑scale study that incorporates at least two of the identified resources, documenting the process in their journal.
