Lesson Plan
Grade: Date: 17/01/2026
Subject: Business
Lesson Topic: a simple explanation of human need
Learning Objective/s:
  • Describe what a human need is and its role in workplace motivation.
  • Explain the three major need theories (Maslow, ERG, McClelland) and identify their levels.
  • Analyse employee situations to match needs with appropriate motivation strategies.
  • Evaluate how meeting higher‑order needs can improve engagement and performance.
Materials Needed:
  • Projector or interactive whiteboard
  • Slide deck on need theories
  • Handout with Maslow hierarchy table
  • Sticky notes or index cards
  • Markers and flip chart
  • Exit‑ticket slips
Introduction:
Begin with a quick poll: “What motivates you to come to work each day?” Connect the responses to the idea that underlying needs drive behaviour. Explain that by the end of the lesson students will be able to identify and apply basic human‑need frameworks to real business contexts.
Lesson Structure:
  1. Do‑Now (5’) – Students write one personal motivator on a sticky note and share briefly.
  2. Mini‑lecture (10’) – Define human need and overview of Maslow, ERG, and McClelland using slides.
  3. Group activity (12’) – Teams match workplace examples to the appropriate need level on a handout.
  4. Strategy design (10’) – Each group selects an employee scenario and creates a short motivation plan targeting the identified need.
  5. Whole‑class debrief (8’) – Groups present plans; teacher highlights key connections and checks understanding.
  6. Exit ticket (5’) – Students answer: “Which need level will you focus on as a future manager and why?”
Conclusion:
Recap that human needs form the foundation of employee motivation and that managers can sequence interventions from basic to higher‑order needs. Remind students to complete the exit ticket as retrieval practice. For homework, ask them to observe a colleague’s behaviour, note which need appears dominant, and prepare a brief reflection for the next class.
