Lesson Plan
Grade: Date: 25/02/2026
Subject: Kiswahili
Lesson Topic: demonstrate competence in a range of speech activities, such as respond to questions on topics within a defined range (past and present schooling, future plans and current affairs)
Learning Objective/s:
  • Describe past, present, and future schooling experiences in Swahili.
  • Respond to examiner questions with appropriate fluency, pronunciation, and grammar.
  • Use linking words and varied vocabulary to organise ideas coherently.
  • Discuss current affairs and express opinions clearly and confidently.
Materials Needed:
  • Projector and screen
  • Printed question‑bank handouts
  • Audio recorders or smartphones for homework recordings
  • Whiteboard and markers
  • Timer/stopwatch
Introduction:

Begin with a quick “memory flash” – ask students to shout one word that reminds them of primary school. Review briefly the four topic areas (past, present, future, current affairs) and explain that today they will practise answering exam‑style questions fluently. Success will be measured by using correct tense, clear pronunciation, and appropriate linking words.

Lesson Structure:
  1. Do‑now (5’): Students write a single sentence about a past school memory and share with a partner.
  2. Model dialogue (10’): Teacher demonstrates a question on “Elimu ya sasa” and a high‑scoring answer, highlighting fluency, grammar and linking devices.
  3. Future Plans Carousel (15’): Arrange chairs in two circles; inner‑circle asks a future‑plan question, outer‑circle answers within 30 seconds, then rotate.
  4. Pronunciation & linking drill (8’): Minimal‑pair “ng” practice and quick activity inserting connectors (kwa mfano, hata hivyo, kwa upande mwingine).
  5. Feedback & error correction (10’): Review common errors (tense confusion, “ng” pronunciation, limited connectors) using the rubric; students self‑assess.
  6. Whole‑class reflection & exit ticket (7’): Each student states one strength and one area to improve; teacher notes for next lesson.
Conclusion:

Recap the key criteria—fluency, pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary, and coherence—and remind students of the exit‑ticket reflections. Assign homework: record a 1‑minute monologue on any of the four topics and bring the audio, plus write a short paragraph summarising a recent news article to practice presenting aloud.
