Lesson Plan
Grade: Date: 25/02/2026
Subject: Kiswahili
Lesson Topic: draw conclusions from an extended text and recognise connections between related ideas within a text
Learning Objective/s:
  • Identify the main claim and supporting evidence in a 250‑word passage.
  • Analyse how linking words (e.g., “kwa sababu”, “hata hivyo”) create logical connections.
  • Construct a concise conclusion that integrates at least two pieces of evidence.
  • Explain the overall structure (introduction, body, conclusion) and its role in shaping meaning.
Materials Needed:
  • Printed copies of the extended text (250 words)
  • Worksheet with analysis table (sections, claims, examples, connections)
  • Projector or interactive whiteboard
  • Mind‑map template and coloured markers
  • Sticky notes for exit tickets
Introduction:

Begin with a quick “What makes a good conclusion?” poll to activate prior knowledge. Show a short video clip of a story ending and ask learners to infer the main idea. Explain that today they will learn to pull evidence from a longer text and link ideas to craft a solid conclusion. Success will be measured by a clear, evidence‑based conclusion on their exit ticket.

Lesson Structure:
  1. Do‑now (5'): Students write one sentence summarising a familiar short paragraph.
  2. Guided reading (10'): Teacher reads the extended text aloud while students follow on their copies.
  3. First analysis pass (8'): In pairs, fill the worksheet’s “Section” column and note the main claim for each part.
  4. Second analysis pass (8'): Identify linking words and record supporting examples in the table.
  5. Mind‑map activity (6'): Groups create a visual map showing how claims and examples connect.
  6. Conclusion writing (5'): Individually draft a 2‑sentence conclusion using “*” to mark evidence.
  7. Exit ticket (3'): Write one key takeaway and hand in the sticky note.
Conclusion:

Recap the steps: identify claims, spot linking words, and weave evidence into a conclusion. Collect exit tickets to gauge understanding and assign homework: students choose a short article from a newspaper and apply the same analysis worksheet.
