Date: 25/02/2026 |
| Subject: Art and Design |
| Lesson Topic: explore and experiment with media techniques such as print media, collage, pencils, inks and paper construction |
Learning Objective/s:
- Describe the principles of graphic communication and visual language.
- Demonstrate a range of media techniques including print, collage, pencil, ink and paper construction.
- Apply a structured creative process from research to evaluation to produce a finished artwork.
- Reflect on the effectiveness of visual communication against assessment criteria.
|
Materials Needed:
- Linoleum/wood blocks, metal plates, screen mesh and inks for printmaking.
- Assorted papers, magazines, fabric, adhesives for collage.
- Graphite, charcoal, coloured pencils and drawing paper.
- India ink, acrylic ink, brushes, dip pens.
- Cardstock, tissue paper, cutting tools and glue for paper construction.
- Sketchbooks, process diary and projector for visual references.
|
Introduction:
Begin with a quick visual montage of iconic posters and printed artworks to spark curiosity about how messages travel through media. Ask students to recall recent projects where they used drawing or collage and discuss what worked well. Explain that today they will explore a range of techniques—print, collage, pencil, ink and paper construction—and will be assessed on their ability to communicate a clear idea, experiment with materials, and reflect on their process.
|
Lesson Structure:
- Do‑now (5’) – Students sketch a rapid visual response to a prompt, recalling previous techniques.
- Mini‑lecture & demo (10’) – Teacher shows key principles of graphic communication and demonstrates basic print and ink techniques using the projector.
- Research & mood‑board (10’) – Learners gather reference images and create a small mood board in their sketchbooks.
- Idea generation (15’) – Students produce thumbnail sketches exploring composition and media combinations, selecting one technique to develop.
- Experimentation stations (20’) – Small groups rotate through stations (print, collage, ink, paper construction) to test material handling and record observations in their process diary.
- Production planning & start (15’) – Pupils outline a step‑by‑step plan for their final piece and begin execution, with teacher circulating for feedback.
|
Conclusion:
Gather the class to share key discoveries and how each technique supported their intended message. Students complete a quick exit ticket noting one successful experiment and one area to improve. Remind them of the homework mini‑portfolio and artist statement due next week.
