  • Demonstrate listening and reading comprehension of authentic IGCSE‑style texts about family and friends.
Materials Needed:

  • Audio recording “Ma Famille”
  • Worksheet with listening and reading questions
  • Flashcards for adjective matching
  • Whiteboard and markers
Introduction:
Begin with a quick “Guess Who?” picture game to spark interest in describing people. Review previously learned greetings and basic personal questions. Explain that today’s success criteria are: using correct adjectives, possessive/demonstrative forms, and present‑tense verbs to talk about self, family and friends.
Lesson Structure:
  1. Do‑now (5'): Vocabulary matching on flashcards – students pair up and match French adjectives to English meanings.
  2. Mini‑lecture (10'): Review possessive and demonstrative adjectives with examples on the board.
  3. Listening activity (10'): Play “Ma Famille” audio; students answer comprehension questions individually.
  4. Reading & discussion (10'): Read the provided text excerpt; students answer comprehension questions in pairs.
  5. Speaking practice (15'): Pair work – students use the sample dialogue prompts to interview each other and record a short dialogue.
  6. Writing task (15'): Students write an 80‑100 word paragraph “Ma Famille et Mes Amis” using the target grammar and vocabulary.
  7. Plenary & feedback (5'): Share a few excerpts, check objectives, and note common errors.
Conclusion:
Recap the key language points covered and ask students to self‑assess their confidence with the success criteria. Collect exit tickets where each learner writes one sentence using a possessive adjective and one present‑tense verb about their family. Assign homework: create a illustrated family tree labeled in French, incorporating at least five new adjectives.
