Lesson Plan
Grade: Date: 17/01/2026
Subject: Information Technology IT
Lesson Topic: Identify social networking platforms (blogs, forums, instant messaging)
Learning Objective/s:
  • Describe the purpose and communication style of blogs, forums, and instant‑messaging services.
  • Compare key features, typical users and examples of each platform.
  • Evaluate which social‑networking platform best fits a given personal or educational scenario.
Materials Needed:
  • Projector or interactive whiteboard
  • Laptop with internet access
  • Handout summarising blog, forum and IM characteristics
  • Sample screenshots of WordPress, Reddit and WhatsApp
  • Whiteboard markers
  • Exit‑ticket cards
Introduction:
Begin with a quick poll: “Which online platforms do you use daily?” Students then sort their answers into blogs, forums or instant‑messaging. Explain that today’s success criteria are to recognise each type, compare their features and choose the most appropriate platform for a given purpose.
Lesson Structure:
  1. Do‑now (5'): Students list personal platforms and classify them; teacher collects responses.
  2. Mini‑lecture (10'): Definition of social networking platforms and overview of blogs, forums, IM with real‑world examples.
  3. Guided analysis (15'): In small groups, examine screenshots and complete a comparison chart (content format, interaction type, typical users).
  4. Whole‑class discussion (10'): Groups share findings; teacher highlights key similarities and differences.
  5. Application activity (10'): Pairs receive a scenario (e.g., classroom project, hobby community) and decide which platform is most suitable, justifying their choice.
  6. Exit ticket (5'): Each student writes one key difference between any two platform types.
Conclusion:
Recap the three platform types and their distinctive features, confirming understanding through the exit tickets. Assign a brief homework: research an emerging social‑networking service and write a 150‑word paragraph explaining which of the three categories it belongs to and why.
