Lesson Plan
Grade: Date: 17/01/2026
Subject: Mandarin Chinese
Lesson Topic: Clothes and accessories
Learning Objective/s:
  • Identify and pronounce at least 12 clothing and accessory vocabulary items and their measure words.
  • Use correct measure words (件, 条, 双, 只, 副) to describe the quantity of clothing items in sentences.
  • Apply the adjective order (color → material → style) when describing clothing.
  • Conduct a short dialogue asking about and describing another person’s outfit using appropriate question forms.
  • Compare Chinese and Western dress etiquette for specific occasions.
Materials Needed:
  • Projector and screen
  • Printed vocabulary handouts with pictures
  • Flashcards of clothing items
  • Whiteboard and markers
  • Audio recording of a shopping dialogue
  • Worksheets for matching and fill‑in exercises
  • Role‑play cue cards
Introduction:
Begin with a quick photo montage of diverse outfits and ask students what they notice about the clothing. Recall the previous lesson’s focus on basic clothing vocabulary and measure words. Explain that today they will expand their word bank, master adjective order, and practice real‑life shopping conversations. Success will be shown by correctly using measure words and describing outfits in a role‑play.
Lesson Structure:
  1. Do‑now (5'): Students match pictures on the board to the new vocabulary list.
  2. Mini‑lecture (10'): Introduce measure words and adjective order with examples projected on screen.
  3. Guided practice (10'): Complete a worksheet matching clothing items to the correct measure words.
  4. Listening & note‑taking (8'): Play a shopping dialogue; students record the items mentioned and their prices.
  5. Role‑play activity (15'): Pairs act out shopper ↔ store clerk using cue cards; teacher circulates to give feedback.
  6. Check for understanding (7'): Whole‑class sharing of outfit descriptions; teacher corrects any misuse of measure words or adjective order.
Conclusion:
Summarise that students can now name clothing items, use appropriate measure words, and describe outfits with correct adjective order. For the exit ticket, each student writes one sentence describing a classmate’s outfit in Chinese. Homework: complete an 80‑character writing task describing their favourite outfit, including price and where to buy it.
