Lesson Plan
Grade: Date: 17/01/2026
Subject: Drama
Lesson Topic: Impact of travel and tourism: economic, environmental, socio-cultural
Learning Objective/s:
  • Describe the economic, environmental and socio‑cultural impacts of travel and tourism.
  • Analyse how these impacts can influence drama production, performance and storytelling.
  • Evaluate sustainable‑tourism strategies that could be incorporated into theatrical projects.
  • Create a short scene or monologue that reflects one specific tourism impact.
Materials Needed:
  • Projector and screen
  • PowerPoint/slide deck summarising impacts
  • Printed handouts of the impact summary table
  • Whiteboard and markers
  • Sticky notes and pens for brainstorming
  • Worksheet for scene planning
  • Short video clip of a tourist destination (optional)
Introduction:
Begin with a 2‑minute video of a popular tourist spot and ask, “What stories could this place tell?” Connect to students’ prior knowledge of setting and context in drama. Explain that today they will explore how tourism shapes economies, environments and cultures, and that they will be assessed on their ability to identify impacts, discuss implications for theatre, and produce a brief scene.
Lesson Structure:
  1. Do‑now (5’) – Quick brainstorm on known effects of tourism; record ideas on the board.
  2. Mini‑lecture with slides (10’) – Overview of economic, environmental and socio‑cultural impacts.
  3. Group analysis (15’) – Each group receives one impact area, reads the summary table, and lists implications for drama (e.g., setting, character motivation).
  4. Creative task (20’) – Groups devise a short scene or monologue that illustrates their assigned impact, using sticky notes for ideas and the worksheet to outline characters, conflict and resolution.
  5. Gallery walk & peer feedback (10’) – Groups perform or read their drafts; peers note strengths and suggestions on a feedback sheet.
  6. Whole‑class debrief (5’) – Discuss common themes, link to sustainable‑tourism concepts, and clarify how drama can raise awareness.
Conclusion:
Recap the three impact categories and how they were woven into the students’ scenes. For the exit ticket, ask each pupil to write one way drama can promote sustainable tourism. Assign homework: draft a full script outline that integrates at least two tourism impacts and proposes a sustainable solution.
