Lesson Plan
Grade: Date: 17/01/2026
Subject: Drama
Lesson Topic: Transport: air, sea, road, rail, factors affecting choice
Learning Objective/s:
  • Identify and describe the four main transport modes used in tourism (air, sea, road, rail).
  • Compare speed, cost, capacity and environmental impact of each mode.
  • Analyse the key factors that influence a traveller’s or operator’s choice of transport.
  • Apply the comparison to a realistic travel scenario and justify the most suitable mode.
  • Present findings clearly and respond to peer feedback.
Materials Needed:
  • Projector and screen
  • Printed handouts with the comparison table
  • Flowchart diagram (printed or digital)
  • Markers and flip‑chart paper
  • Laptops/tablets for quick research
  • Group worksheet for scenario analysis
  • Sticky notes for exit ticket
Introduction:

Start with the question, “If you were planning a family holiday from London to Barcelona, which way would you travel and why?” Students recall previous lessons on travel planning, then the teacher outlines today’s success criteria: compare transport modes, evaluate influencing factors, and recommend a choice.

Lesson Structure:
  1. Do‑Now (5'): Quick KWL on transport modes – students list what they know.
  2. Mini‑lecture (10'): Overview of air, sea, road, rail characteristics using the projector.
  3. Group research & slide prep (15'): Four groups each explore one mode, fill the worksheet and create a 2‑minute slide.
  4. Group presentations (15'): Each group presents advantages, disadvantages and real‑world examples.
  5. Class discussion & ranking (10'): Whole class evaluates a scenario (London‑Barcelona) and ranks the modes, justifying choices.
  6. Exit ticket (5'): Students write the single most important factor influencing their chosen mode.
Conclusion:

Summarise the key differences between the four transport modes and the dominant factors that drive decision‑making. Collect exit tickets to gauge understanding, and assign a brief homework: write a recommendation for an alternative destination, explaining which mode you would choose and why.
