Lesson Plan
Grade: Date: 17/01/2026
Subject: Business Studies
Lesson Topic: satisfying customer needs
Learning Objective/s:
  • Describe the role of marketing in identifying and satisfying customer needs.
  • Explain how each of the 4 Ps (Product, Price, Place, Promotion) contributes to meeting those needs.
  • Analyse the step‑by‑step process businesses use to develop and deliver a product that fulfills customer expectations.
  • Evaluate the importance of after‑sales service for customer loyalty and business profitability.
  • Apply basic market‑research techniques to propose a product idea that addresses a specific need.
Materials Needed:
  • Projector and laptop
  • Whiteboard and markers
  • Printed worksheet with the Marketing Mix table
  • Case‑study cards (real‑world brand examples)
  • Sticky notes for feedback collection
  • Exit‑ticket slips
Introduction:

Begin by asking students to name a product they love and why it meets their needs – this hooks interest and links to prior knowledge of everyday purchases. Briefly recap the definition of marketing covered in previous lessons. Explain that by the end of the lesson they will be able to identify the full process businesses use to satisfy customer needs and demonstrate it through a short activity.

Lesson Structure:
  1. Do‑now (5'): Quick quiz on the definition of marketing and the 4 Ps (paper or digital).
  2. Mini‑lecture (10'): Explain the role of marketing and walk through the 4 Ps, linking each to customer needs.
  3. Group activity (15'): In small groups, students use case‑study cards to map the “Steps to Satisfy Customer Needs” (identify market, research, develop product, price, place, promote, gather feedback).
  4. Whole‑class debrief (10'): Groups present their maps; teacher highlights common strengths and the importance of after‑sales service.
  5. Check for understanding (5'): Exit ticket – students write one way a business can improve its marketing mix to better satisfy a need.
Conclusion:

Summarise how each element of the marketing mix works together to meet customer expectations and why continuous feedback is vital. Collect exit tickets as a retrieval practice and assign homework: each student selects a local business, researches its marketing mix, and writes a brief paragraph on how it satisfies (or could improve) customer needs.
