Lesson Plan
Grade: 10 Date: 17/01/2026
Subject: Spanish
Lesson Topic: The human body and health (e.g. parts of the body, health and illness)
Learning Objective/s:
  • Identify and name major parts of the human body in Spanish.
  • Describe common health problems and symptoms using appropriate vocabulary and verb constructions.
  • Use structures to give and receive health advice in spoken and written Spanish.
  • Write a short paragraph describing a medical visit, incorporating symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment.
Materials Needed:
  • Projector or interactive whiteboard with body diagram.
  • Printed vocabulary handouts (body parts & health terms).
  • Worksheet with matching and gap‑fill activities.
  • Audio recording of a doctor‑patient dialogue.
  • Flashcards for role‑play.
  • Markers and chart paper for group brainstorming.
Introduction:
Begin with a quick image of a human silhouette and ask students to point to parts they know in Spanish. Review previously learned body‑part vocabulary, then explain that today they will extend this to health and illness language. Students will know they are successful when they can label the diagram, complete sentences about symptoms, and give advice using target structures.
Lesson Structure:
  1. Do‑now (5’) – Label a blank body diagram individually.
  2. Vocabulary review (10’) – Flashcard race for body parts and health terms; teacher checks pronunciation.
  3. Grammar focus (10’) – Mini‑lesson on “tener”, “estar”, “dolerse” and advice patterns; students complete a short conjugation worksheet.
  4. Controlled practice (12’) – Matching activity and gap‑fill sentences from the notes.
  5. Role‑play preparation (8’) – Pairs receive a doctor‑patient scenario card; rehearse using the new structures.
  6. Role‑play performance (10’) – Pairs act out the consultation; classmates note correct language on a checklist.
  7. Writing task (10’) – Students write an 80‑100 word paragraph describing a visit to the doctor; peer‑review using rubric.
  8. Plenary (5’) – Whole‑class recap of key vocabulary and structures; exit ticket: one health tip in Spanish.
Conclusion:
Summarise the main body‑part vocabulary and the verb patterns for describing symptoms and giving advice. Ask a few students to share one health tip they wrote as an exit ticket. Assign homework to create a bilingual health‑poster featuring five body parts and associated advice.
