Students will be able to talk about what they do in their free time – sports, music, reading, TV/film, theatre, travel, camping, relaxation and other common hobbies – using the correct vocabulary, verb patterns, articles and connectors required by the Cambridge IGCSE French syllabus.
All nouns are given with the appropriate article (definite, indefinite or partitive). The list follows the order used in the syllabus.

Most sports use faire. Sports that involve a ball, a racquet or a game‑like structure usually use jouer. Both verbs can be followed by the appropriate article.

Pratiquer is often used for sports that are practiced regularly or in a club.
When the activity is expressed with a partitive, the partitive changes to de (or d’) after a negative.
Present of aller + infinitive expresses a plan.
At least one connector must be used in every speaking or writing task.
Marie : Salut, Paul ! Qu’est‑ce que tu fais ce week‑end ? Paul : Salut ! Je vais faire du vélo samedi matin, puis je regarde un film le soir. Marie : Ça a l’air sympa, mais je préfère les activités plus calmes. Donc je joue au tennis dimanche et je lis un roman. Paul : Tu aimes lire ? Quel livre ? Marie : Oui, j’aime lire « Le Petit Prince ». Parce que l’histoire est très poétique. Paul : J’adore le football, mais je fais aussi du jogging. Marie : Super ! On se retrouve dimanche pour jouer au tennis ? Paul : D’accord, à 10 h ! Ainsi nous pourrons jouer avant le déjeuner.
Prompt (80‑100 words): Describe your favourite leisure activities. Use at least three different verbs (faire, jouer, aller) and two expressions of preference (j’aime, je préfère). Include one connective (e.g., parce que, mais, donc) to give a reason or contrast.

Four main branches – Sport, Music & Arts, Reading/TV‑Film, Outdoor & Relaxation. Each branch contains the French vocabulary from section 1, colour‑coded by article type (du/de la/des, le/la, zero article). Teachers can draw this on the board or provide a printable version for students to fill in.
