Introduction: Begin with a brief news clip of a recent pandemic to capture interest and remind students of the real‑world relevance of disease monitoring. Ask learners to recall what they already know about how societies respond to outbreaks, linking this to the four factor categories. Explain that by the end of the lesson they will be able to identify and evaluate these factors and justify why some responses succeed while others fail. |
Lesson Structure:

Conclusion: Summarise how environmental, social, economic and political conditions interact to shape monitoring and response outcomes. Collect the exit tickets to gauge understanding and assign homework: each student researches a recent disease outbreak and prepares a one‑page brief linking at least two factors to the success or failure of the response. |
