| Subject: Information Communication Technology ICT |
| Lesson Topic: Be able to format master slide objects including headings, subheadings, bullets, background colour |
Learning Objective/s:
- Identify and access the Slide Master view in PowerPoint or LibreOffice Impress.
- Format heading and sub‑heading placeholders on the master slide using the prescribed font settings.
- Apply a consistent bullet style and font size to all slide bodies via the master slide.
- Set a uniform background colour for the entire presentation through the master slide.
- Demonstrate how changes made on the master slide automatically update all linked slides.
|
Materials Needed:
- Computer with Microsoft PowerPoint or LibreOffice Impress installed
- Projector and screen
- Sample presentation file for editing
- Teacher handout summarising master‑slide steps
- Worksheet with practice tasks
- Whiteboard and markers (optional)
|
Introduction:
Begin with a quick poll: “How many of you have ever spent time re‑formatting each slide individually?” Connect this to their prior experience with slide design and explain that today they will learn a shortcut that saves time and ensures consistency. State that by the end of the lesson they will be able to format headings, sub‑headings, bullets and background colour from a single master slide.
|
Lesson Structure:
- Do‑now (5'): Students open a pre‑prepared presentation and locate the Slide Master view. Teacher checks that all can access it.
- Mini‑lecture (10'): Explain the purpose of a master slide and demonstrate how to open it in both PowerPoint and Impress.
- Guided practice – Heading & Sub‑heading (15'): Model setting the title to Arial 44 pt dark blue, centre‑aligned, bold and the subtitle to Arial 28 pt dark grey, left‑aligned, italic; students replicate on their computers.
- Bullet styling activity (10'): Show how to select the body text placeholder, choose a solid‑circle bullet, set font size 24 pt and colour black; learners apply the same settings.
- Background colour exercise (10'): Demonstrate “Format Background”, choose a light‑blue solid fill, and apply it; students pick a colour and apply it to their master slide.
- Consolidation (5'): Switch back to normal slide view; students verify that all slides reflect the new formatting.
- Quick quiz / Exit ticket (5'): Individually write three benefits of using a master slide. Collect for assessment.
|
Conclusion:
Recap the steps taken to format headings, sub‑headings, bullets and background colour via the master slide, emphasizing how each change propagates automatically. Students hand in their exit tickets, and for homework they are to create a two‑slide mini‑presentation using the master slide they just designed, ensuring all formatting follows the standards practiced today.
