Lesson Plan
Grade: Date: 25/02/2026
Subject: Information Communication Technology ICT
Lesson Topic: Know and understand characteristics, uses, advantages and disadvantages of output devices including monitors, touch screen (as an output device), multimedia projector, laser printer, inkjet printer, dot matrix printer, plotter, 3D printers, speaker,
Learning Objective/s:
  • Describe the key characteristics and typical uses of common output devices.
  • Compare the advantages and disadvantages of visual, printed, and audio output devices.
  • Evaluate which output device is most suitable for a given scenario.
  • Demonstrate how to select appropriate output devices for a project brief.
Materials Needed:
  • Projector or large display for demonstration
  • Sample monitor and touch‑screen device (or images)
  • Printed handouts with the comparison table
  • Worksheets for group activity
  • Laptop with presentation slides
  • Sample printed outputs (laser, inkjet, dot‑matrix)
Introduction:
Begin with a quick poll: “Which device do you use most to see your work?” Connect this to previous lessons on input devices and explain that today learners will explore output devices, focusing on their characteristics, uses, and pros/cons. Success criteria: students will be able to describe, compare, and recommend appropriate output devices.
Lesson Structure:
  1. Do‑now (5’) – Students list output devices they encounter at home or school and share briefly.
  2. Mini‑lecture (15’) – Overview of visual output devices (monitor, touch screen, projector) with slides and diagrams.
  3. Interactive stations (20’) – Small groups rotate through stations examining sample devices/images and complete a comparison worksheet.
  4. Printer and specialist devices (15’) – Demonstrate laser, inkjet, dot‑matrix, plotter, and 3‑D printer characteristics; discuss advantages/disadvantages.
  5. Audio output (5’) – Brief demo of speakers and discussion of sound as an output medium.
  6. Consolidation quiz (10’) – Kahoot or quick Q&A to check understanding.
  7. Exit ticket (5’) – Write a scenario and recommend the best output device with justification.
Conclusion:
Recap the main features and trade‑offs of each output device. Students complete an exit ticket summarising their recommended device for a given scenario. For homework, ask learners to research an emerging output technology and prepare a short summary to share in the next lesson.
