Lesson Plan
Grade: Date: 17/01/2026
Subject: Information Technology IT
Lesson Topic: Apply video editing techniques (trimming, splicing, titles)
Learning Objective/s:
  • Apply trimming to remove unnecessary footage and improve pacing.
  • Demonstrate splicing techniques, including hard cuts, fades, and cross‑fades, to create smooth transitions.
  • Design and insert appropriate titles (opening, lower‑third, credits) ensuring legibility and relevance.
  • Balance audio levels and export a 1080p MP4 video that meets specification.
Materials Needed:
  • Computer with video‑editing software (e.g., Adobe Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve)
  • Projector and screen for demonstrations
  • Raw video footage clips and audio tracks (provided)
  • Headphones for audio monitoring
  • Handout summarising trimming, splicing, and title steps
  • USB drives or cloud folder for exporting videos
Introduction:
Begin with a short clip that shows a poorly edited video and ask students to identify the issues. Review prior knowledge of basic timeline navigation and the purpose of editing. Explain that today they will learn to trim, splice, and add titles to produce a polished 2‑minute video, with success measured by a smooth narrative and clear titles.
Lesson Structure:
  1. Do‑Now (5'): Students watch the sample clip and note editing problems.
  2. Mini‑lecture & live demo (10'): Teacher explains trimming, splicing, and title concepts.
  3. Guided practice – trimming (15'): Students import footage, organise bins, and trim assigned clips.
  4. Pair activity – splicing & transitions (15'): Students splice clips, apply at least two transition types, and adjust durations.
  5. Title creation (10'): Students add opening title, lower‑thirds, and closing credits, focusing on legibility.
  6. Audio balancing & export (10'): Students fine‑tune audio levels and export a 1080p MP4.
  7. Presentation & peer feedback (15'): Each pair showcases their video and explains editing choices.
Conclusion:
Recap how trimming, splicing, and titles combine to create a coherent video. Have students write one editing tip they found most useful on an exit ticket. Assign homework to edit a short personal video using the same workflow and submit the final file before the next lesson.
