Lesson Plan
Grade: Date: 17/01/2026
Subject: Psychology
Lesson Topic: Learning
Learning Objective/s:
  • Describe the six major psychological approaches and their key concepts.
  • Compare the strengths and limitations of each approach.
  • Apply an appropriate approach to a given research question or real‑world scenario.
  • Evaluate ethical considerations associated with each approach.
  • Analyse how integrative biopsychosocial models combine multiple approaches.
Materials Needed:
  • Projector and screen
  • PowerPoint slides summarising each approach
  • Handout with comparative table of approaches
  • Whiteboard and markers
  • Sticky notes for group activity
  • Laptop for video clips (optional)
Introduction:

Begin with a quick poll: Which everyday behaviour do you think is most shaped by the environment versus internal thoughts? Use the responses to highlight that psychologists adopt different lenses to understand learning. Explain that today’s lesson will explore six major approaches, and students will learn to match an approach to a specific research scenario.

Lesson Structure:
  1. Do‑now (5') – Students write an example of learning they have experienced and label the dominant factor (environment, cognition, etc.).
  2. Mini‑lecture (15') – Overview of the six approaches with key concepts using slides.
  3. Comparative analysis activity (10') – In pairs, students complete a Venn diagram comparing strengths and limitations of two assigned approaches.
  4. Case‑study application (15') – Groups receive a brief research question and decide which approach(s) to use, justifying their choice.
  5. Ethical considerations discussion (5') – Whole‑class brainstorm of ethical issues linked to each approach.
  6. Summary & check for understanding (5') – Quick quiz (e.g., Kahoot) on key concepts.
Conclusion:

Recap the distinct lenses and how they guide research and practice. Ask students to write an exit ticket naming one approach they would choose for a personal learning goal and why. For homework, assign a short article on biopsychosocial integration and a one‑paragraph reflection on how the approaches can be combined.
