Lesson Plan
Grade: Date: 25/02/2026
Subject: Business
Lesson Topic: differences between job, batch, flow and mass customisation methods and the advantages and disadvantages of each
Learning Objective/s:
  • Describe the four production methods (job, batch, flow, mass customisation) and their key characteristics.
  • Compare the main advantages and disadvantages of each method.
  • Evaluate which method best suits different product types and market conditions.
  • Apply selection criteria to a case‑study and justify the chosen production method.
Materials Needed:
  • Projector and screen
  • PowerPoint slides summarising the four methods
  • Handout with the comparison table
  • Whiteboard and markers
  • Sticky notes for group activity
  • Exit‑ticket cards
Introduction:
Imagine ordering a custom‑made sofa versus buying a mass‑produced smartphone. Students already know basic concepts of cost, volume and customer needs, so we will link that knowledge to production methods. By the end of the lesson you will be able to list each method’s pros and cons and justify a choice for a given product.
Lesson Structure:
  1. Do‑now (5') – quick quiz on which products fit which production method.
  2. Teacher input (10') – present definitions, diagrams and key advantages/disadvantages.
  3. Guided analysis (10') – students work with the handout to fill a pros/cons matrix.
  4. Group activity (15') – case‑study: each group selects the most suitable method for a product and prepares a 2‑minute justification.
  5. Check for understanding (5') – Kahoot review and exit‑ticket: name one advantage and one disadvantage of the method you chose.
Conclusion:
We recap the four methods, highlighting how cost, volume and flexibility drive the choice. Students complete an exit ticket that pairs a method with its most significant advantage. For homework, they research a real‑world company and write a brief paragraph explaining which production method it uses and why.
