Grade: Date: 17/01/2026
Subject: Business
Lesson Topic: leadership roles in business: directors, managers, supervisors and worker representatives
Learning Objective/s:
  • Describe the primary responsibilities of directors, managers, supervisors and worker representatives.
  • Explain how each role fits within the organisational hierarchy.
  • Compare the key skills required for each leadership role.
  • Analyse how these roles interact to influence business decisions.
Materials Needed:
  • Projector and screen
  • Printed handout with role‑comparison table
  • Whiteboard and markers
  • Sticky notes for brainstorming
  • Role‑play scenario cards for each leadership role
  • Exit‑ticket slips
Introduction:

Begin with a headline about a recent board decision that impacted a major company to hook interest. Ask students to recall any leadership titles they have encountered in school or media, recording responses on sticky notes. Explain that today they will identify four specific leadership roles and the success criteria: students will be able to describe responsibilities, locate each role in the hierarchy, and compare required skills.

Lesson Structure:
  1. Do‑now (5'): Students list known leadership titles on sticky notes and place them on the board.
  2. Mini‑lecture (10'): Using a slide and the suggested flowchart, introduce directors, managers, supervisors, and worker representatives.
  3. Guided analysis (15'): In pairs, students examine the handout table, discuss key responsibilities and skills, and complete a short matching worksheet.
  4. Role‑play activity (20'): Four groups each receive a scenario card; they act out decisions from the perspective of one leadership role, then receive peer feedback.
  5. Whole‑class debrief (5'): Groups share insights on how the roles interact and where authority lies.
  6. Exit ticket (5'): Individually, students write one way each role contributes to a company's success.
Conclusion:

Summarise the distinct but inter‑related functions of the four leadership roles and highlight how effective collaboration drives organisational performance. Collect exit tickets as a quick retrieval check. For homework, assign students to research a real company’s board and write a brief paragraph describing how the identified roles influence that company’s strategic decisions.
