Grade: Date: 25/02/2026
Subject: Psychology
Lesson Topic: How individuals and groups within organisations function, influence each other and impact overall organisational performance
Learning Objective/s:
  • Describe key individual differences (personality, abilities, values) and their impact on work behaviour.
  • Explain major motivation, leadership, and group‑dynamics theories and how they influence organisational performance.
  • Apply at least two theories (e.g., Goal‑Setting, Equity) to design a practical intervention that improves employee engagement or reduces turnover.
  • Analyse the relationship between organisational culture, climate and performance using case examples.
Materials Needed:
  • Projector and screen
  • PowerPoint slides summarising theories
  • Handout worksheet with case scenarios and diagram
  • Flip chart or whiteboard
  • Sticky notes for group activity
  • Laptop with internet access
Introduction:
Begin with a quick poll asking students what most motivates them at work, linking responses to everyday experiences. Highlight that today’s focus is on how individual and group processes shape organisational outcomes. State that by the end of the lesson they will be able to explain key theories and design a simple intervention to boost performance.
Lesson Structure:
  1. Do‑now (5') – Students write three personal motivators on sticky notes and post them on the board.
  2. Mini‑lecture (15') – Overview of individual differences, motivation, leadership and group‑dynamics theories with slides and a flow‑diagram.
  3. Group case activity (20') – In groups of 4, analyse a provided scenario (e.g., low sales team) and select two theories to propose an intervention; record on the worksheet.
  4. Whole‑class debrief (10') – Groups present their proposals; teacher connects ideas to organisational performance indicators.
  5. Check for understanding (5') – Quick quiz (Kahoot or handout) with three application questions.
Conclusion:
Summarise how individual motivation, group cohesion and leadership interact to drive performance. Ask each student to write one actionable tip they could use in a future workplace (exit ticket). For homework, assign a short essay linking one theory to a real‑world organisational challenge.
