Subject: Business
Lesson Topic: the roles, rights and responsibilities of stakeholders
Learning Objective/s:
  • Describe the primary roles of key internal and external stakeholder groups.
  • Explain the rights each stakeholder group holds under business law and ethical standards.
  • Analyse the responsibilities of stakeholders and how they influence business decisions.
  • Evaluate how balancing stakeholder interests contributes to sustainable business performance.
Materials Needed:
  • Projector and screen
  • Whiteboard and markers
  • Handouts of the stakeholder summary table
  • Worksheets for the stakeholder analysis activity
  • Sticky notes or index cards
  • Laptop with internet access for research
Introduction:

Begin with a quick poll: Who can name a person or group that influences a business? Building on students’ prior understanding of customers and employees, we will explore the wider network of stakeholders. By the end of the lesson, students will be able to identify stakeholder groups, articulate their rights and responsibilities, and explain why balancing these interests is crucial for business success.

Lesson Structure:
  1. Do‑now (5’) – Students write any stakeholders they can think of on sticky notes; share and categorize as internal or external.
  2. Mini‑lecture (10’) – Define “stakeholder” and present the summary table of roles, rights, and responsibilities using the projector.
  3. Guided analysis (15’) – In pairs, students complete a worksheet comparing two stakeholder groups, identifying specific rights and responsibilities.
  4. Whole‑class discussion (10’) – Pairs present findings; teacher highlights connections to business objectives and ethical considerations.
  5. Stakeholder mapping activity (10’) – Using a large diagram, students place identified groups on a map of influence versus interest.
  6. Check for understanding (5’) – Quick quiz (Kahoot or handout) on key concepts.
Conclusion:

We recap that each stakeholder has distinct roles, rights and responsibilities that shape business decisions. For the exit ticket, students write one way a business can balance the interests of two stakeholder groups. Homework: complete the stakeholder analysis worksheet for a chosen company and bring it to the next class.
