Grade: Date: 17/01/2026
Subject: Business
Lesson Topic: the dynamic business environment
Learning Objective/s:
  • Describe the key external drivers (PESTLE) that create change in the business environment.
  • Analyse how internal factors such as leadership and resources influence a firm’s adaptability.
  • Apply the PESTLE framework to a real‑world case (e.g., retail e‑commerce shift) and identify strategic responses.
  • Evaluate the importance of strategic flexibility, innovation management and risk management in a dynamic context.
Materials Needed:
  • Projector or interactive whiteboard
  • PowerPoint slides summarising PESTLE factors
  • Printed worksheet with a PESTLE analysis template
  • Case‑study handout on retail e‑commerce transformation
  • Sticky notes or digital Padlet for brainstorming
  • Exit‑ticket slips or online quiz link
Introduction:

Begin with a short video clip showing a traditional store turning into an online platform to hook interest. Ask students what recent changes they have noticed in their favourite brands, linking to prior knowledge of market trends. Explain that by the end of the lesson they will be able to identify and evaluate the forces that make the business environment dynamic.

Lesson Structure:
  1. Do‑now (5'): Quick KWL chart on “What do we know about business change?”
  2. Direct instruction (10'): Present the six PESTLE drivers with examples (slides).
  3. Guided practice (12'): Small groups complete a PESTLE table for the retail case study (worksheet).
  4. Whole‑class debrief (8'): Groups share key findings; teacher highlights internal change factors.
  5. Application activity (10'): Students propose two strategic actions for the retailer, linking to flexibility, innovation and risk management.
  6. Check for understanding (5'): Exit ticket – “Name one external and one internal driver that could affect any business.”
Conclusion:

Summarise how external PESTLE forces and internal capabilities together shape a dynamic business environment. Collect exit tickets to gauge understanding and assign homework: students must select a local business and complete a brief PESTLE analysis for the next class.
