Lesson Plan
Grade: Date: 17/01/2026
Subject: Business
Lesson Topic: how objectives might change over time
Learning Objective/s:
  • Describe why business objectives are dynamic and identify external and internal factors that trigger changes.
  • Analyse how changes in objectives affect short‑, medium‑ and long‑term decision‑making.
  • Evaluate a case study to determine appropriate revisions to objectives and associated strategic actions.
  • Apply a systematic review process (monitor, scan, evaluate, revise) to a given business scenario.
Materials Needed:
  • Projector and screen
  • Whiteboard and markers
  • Handout with case study of Company XYZ
  • KPI tracking worksheet
  • Flowchart template for objective revision cycle
  • Sticky notes for group brainstorming
Introduction:
Begin with a quick poll: “What business goal would you change if market conditions shifted?” Review prior learning on setting SMART objectives. Explain that today’s success criteria are to identify drivers of objective change and propose revised objectives for a case study.
Lesson Structure:
  1. Do‑now (5’) – Students answer the poll on index cards and share; teacher records key ideas.
  2. Mini‑lecture (10’) – Recap SMART objectives and introduce external/internal drivers using a slide deck.
  3. Case study analysis (15’) – In pairs, examine XYZ’s original objectives and the 2023 changes; complete worksheet identifying triggers.
  4. Group synthesis (10’) – Teams create a revised objective set for a new scenario using the flowchart template; present rationale.
  5. Check for understanding (5’) – Exit ticket: write one factor that would most likely force a long‑term objective revision.
Conclusion:
Summarise how objective evolution links to strategic decisions and the importance of regular review. Collect exit tickets to gauge understanding. Assign homework: research a recent real‑world company that altered its objectives and prepare a brief report.
