Grade: Date: 17/01/2026
Subject: Business Studies
Lesson Topic: recommend and justify which method of sales promotion to use in a given situation
Learning Objective/s:
  • Describe the main purposes of sales promotion.
  • Analyse a business scenario to identify relevant promotion objectives.
  • Evaluate different sales‑promotion methods and select the most suitable one.
  • Justify the chosen method by linking it to the objective, target market and budget.
  • Apply the eight‑step decision process to recommend a promotion in a case study.
Materials Needed:
  • Projector and screen
  • Whiteboard and markers
  • Printed handouts of the promotion methods table
  • Sample product packaging or mock‑up images
  • Scenario analysis worksheets
  • Sticky notes for brainstorming
Introduction:

Begin with a quick poll: “Which recent promotion caught your attention and why?” Connect this to students’ prior knowledge of the promotional mix. Explain that today they will learn how to match a sales‑promotion method to a specific business situation and will be assessed on their ability to justify the choice.

Lesson Structure:
  1. Do‑now (5') – short quiz on the four elements of the promotional mix.
  2. Mini‑lecture (10') – recap purposes of sales promotion and overview of common methods.
  3. Guided walkthrough (15') – teacher models the 8‑step recommendation process using the cosmetics scenario.
  4. Group activity (20') – each group receives a new scenario, completes a worksheet to recommend a promotion and writes a brief justification.
  5. Whole‑class share (10') – groups present their recommendation; peers give feedback on links to objectives and target market.
  6. Exit ticket (5') – students write the single most appropriate promotion method for a given brief and a one‑sentence justification.
Conclusion:

Summarise the key steps for selecting and justifying a sales‑promotion method. Collect exit tickets to gauge understanding and assign homework: research a real‑world brand’s recent promotion, identify the method used, and write a short paragraph explaining why it fits the brand’s objective.
