  • Printed handout with advantage/disadvantage tables

  • Sticky notes for brainstorming
 Introduction:

Start with a quick poll: “What new technology have you seen at work or at home?” Connect this to previous lessons on productivity. Explain that today’s success criteria are to list and evaluate the pros and cons of technological change for both businesses and employees.
Lesson Structure:
  1. Do‑now (5’) – Students write three recent technological changes they have observed.
  2. Mini‑lecture (10’) – Present key concepts (technology, automation, productivity, skill‑mix) and outline main advantages.
  3. Group analysis (15’) – In small groups, use the handout to match each advantage with its corresponding disadvantage for businesses and employees.
  4. Case‑study activity (10’) – Examine a real‑world company’s tech adoption and identify benefits and challenges.
  5. Role‑play debate (10’) – One side acts as management, the other as employees, discussing impacts of a new system.
  6. Whole‑class debrief (5’) – Summarise key points and clarify any misconceptions.
  7. Exit ticket (5’) – Each student writes one advantage and one disadvantage of technological change.
Conclusion:

Recap the balanced view of technology’s impact, highlighting both productivity gains and potential workforce challenges. Collect exit tickets as a retrieval check. For homework, ask students to research a local business that has recently adopted new technology and prepare a brief report on its advantages and disadvantages.
