Grade: Date: 17/01/2026
Subject: Business Studies
Lesson Topic: recommend and justify which method of communication to use in a given situation
Learning Objective/s:
  • Describe why effective communication is vital for business success.
  • Identify and compare common communication methods and their key features.
  • Apply a decision‑making framework to recommend the most appropriate method for a specific business situation.
  • Justify the chosen method by linking its advantages to factors such as urgency, audience, and confidentiality.
Materials Needed:
  • Projector and screen
  • Whiteboard and markers
  • Printed handouts of the communication methods table
  • Scenario cards for group work
  • Worksheets for independent activity
  • Laptop with internet access
Introduction:

Begin with a quick think‑pair‑share: “Recall a recent miscommunication at work or school – what went wrong?” Connect this to students’ prior knowledge of business communication. Explain that by the end of the lesson they will be able to evaluate factors and recommend the most suitable communication method, justifying their choice.

Lesson Structure:
  1. Do‑now (5’) – Students share their miscommunication examples and note the consequences.
  2. Mini‑lecture (10’) – Using the projector, present the six communication methods, their advantages/disadvantages, and the seven decision‑making factors.
  3. Guided practice (10’) – In small groups, work through the decision‑making framework with a sample situation from the handout; teacher circulates to check understanding.
  4. Independent activity (10’) – Each student receives a new scenario card, selects a method, and writes a brief justification on the worksheet.
  5. Peer review (5’) – Pairs exchange justifications, give feedback on how well the factors are linked.
  6. Whole‑class debrief (5’) – Discuss common choices, highlight strong justifications, and clarify any misconceptions.
Conclusion:

Recap the key steps of the decision‑making framework and the importance of matching method strengths to situational factors. For the exit ticket, ask students to write one factor they consider most influential when choosing a communication method. Homework: research a real‑world company case where communication method choice was critical and prepare a short justification.
