Lesson Plan
Grade: Date: 25/02/2026
Subject: Information Communication Technology ICT
Lesson Topic: Be able to use editing techniques to manipulate text and numbers including highlight, delete, move, cut, copy, paste, drag and drop
Learning Objective/s:
  • Demonstrate how to highlight/select text, cells, or objects in word processors, spreadsheets, and presentations.
  • Apply cut, copy, paste, delete, and move commands using keyboard shortcuts and mouse drag‑and‑drop.
  • Manipulate layout by rearranging text or data accurately and use undo/redo to correct errors.
Materials Needed:
  • Computer with internet access (Windows/Mac)
  • Word processor (e.g., MS Word or Google Docs)
  • Spreadsheet software (e.g., MS Excel or Google Sheets)
  • Presentation software (e.g., PowerPoint or Google Slides)
  • Projector and screen for teacher demonstration
  • Printed worksheet with practice tasks
Introduction:

Begin with a quick demonstration of a messy paragraph and ask students how they would tidy it up. Recall that they have already used basic copy‑paste in previous lessons. Today they will master a full range of editing techniques and will be able to check their work against a checklist.

Lesson Structure:
  1. Do‑now (5'): Students open a blank document, type a given sentence and highlight a word; teacher circulates.
  2. Mini‑lecture & demo (10'): Show highlighting, delete, cut, copy, paste, and drag‑and‑drop across Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, emphasising shortcuts.
  3. Guided practice – Text editing (8'): Students follow Example 1, replacing a word using cut‑paste.
  4. Guided practice – Spreadsheet row move (8'): Students complete Example 2, moving a row with cut‑paste.
  5. Guided practice – Presentation copy‑paste (8'): Students complete Example 3, duplicating a chart and repositioning it.
  6. Check for understanding (5'): Quick quiz on shortcuts and common mistakes; review the assessment checklist.
Conclusion:

Summarise that accurate highlighting and the correct use of cut, copy, paste and drag‑and‑drop are essential for clean layouts. For exit, each student completes a short ticket: list two shortcuts they used and one mistake they avoided. Homework: create a one‑page document applying all techniques learned.
