Lesson Plan
Grade: Date: 17/01/2026
Subject: Global Perspectives & Research
Lesson Topic: produce a structured presentation using language appropriate for the audience (AS Level only)
Learning Objective/s:
  • Describe key communication concepts (message, channel, noise, feedback) and the three main models.
  • Analyse common barriers to effective communication in global contexts.
  • Apply a communication model to evaluate digital media content such as climate‑change tweets.
  • Use the CRAAP test to assess the reliability of online sources.
  • Produce a structured, audience‑appropriate presentation that integrates multimodal elements.
Materials Needed:
  • Projector and screen
  • Handout summarising communication models and CRAAP criteria
  • Laptops/tablets with internet access
  • Sample tweet dataset (#ClimateAction)
  • Worksheet for coding tweets and evaluating sources
  • Presentation software (PowerPoint/Google Slides)
Introduction:

Begin with a short viral climate‑change tweet video to capture interest. Prompt students to consider why the message is compelling and what might hinder its clarity. Review prior knowledge of global‑issue research and outline today’s success criteria: identify communication barriers, apply a model, and draft a clear presentation.

Lesson Structure:
  1. Starter (5') – Show the tweet video; quick whole‑class discussion on persuasive elements.
  2. Mini‑lecture (10') – Present definitions and compare Shannon‑Weaver, Schramm, and Transactional models.
  3. Group analysis (15') – In small groups, code the sample tweets for tone, visual cues, and sources of noise; map findings onto a chosen model.
  4. CRAAP activity (10') – Pairs evaluate one online source using the CRAAP checklist and record findings.
  5. Presentation planning (15') – Students outline a structured presentation, selecting language and media suited to a specific audience (e.g., policymakers, peers).
  6. Share & feedback (10') – Groups deliver a 2‑minute outline; peers give constructive feedback using a rubric.
  7. Plenary (5') – Recap key ideas; exit ticket: write one tip for ensuring clear communication in a presentation.
Conclusion:

Summarise how communication models help diagnose barriers and guide effective presentation design. Collect exit tickets and remind students to finish their full presentation draft for homework, incorporating peer feedback and CRAAP‑tested sources.
