Lesson Plan
Grade: Date: 17/01/2026
Subject: Computer Science
Lesson Topic: Explain advantages and disadvantages of cloud storage compared to local storage
Learning Objective/s:
  • Describe key differences between cloud and local storage across cost, scalability, accessibility, performance, and security.
  • Analyze the advantages and disadvantages of each storage type for given scenarios.
  • Evaluate factors to decide the most appropriate storage solution for a project or school environment.
  • Compare and contrast the two models using a Venn diagram to illustrate overlapping benefits.
Materials Needed:
  • Projector and screen
  • Whiteboard and markers
  • Printed comparison handout
  • Venn‑diagram worksheet
  • Laptops or tablets with internet access
  • Poster paper and coloured markers for group work
Introduction:

Begin with a quick poll: where do you think most of your photos and documents are stored today? Review the previous lesson on basic data storage concepts. Today you will identify and compare the pros and cons of cloud versus local storage and be able to justify a storage choice for a given scenario.

Lesson Structure:
  1. Do‑now (5’) – Students list devices they use for storing files at home and share a few examples.
  2. Mini‑lecture (10’) – Define cloud and local storage, display the comparison table, and highlight key aspects.
  3. Group analysis (15’) – Teams complete a worksheet filling in advantages and disadvantages, then discuss their findings.
  4. Venn diagram activity (10’) – Groups create a Venn diagram on poster paper showing overlapping and unique benefits.
  5. Decision scenario (10’) – Each group reads a case study and recommends either cloud or local storage, justifying the choice using the identified factors.
  6. Whole‑class debrief (5’) – Groups present recommendations; teacher reinforces key points and corrects misconceptions.
Conclusion:

Summarise that both cloud and local storage have distinct strengths and the optimal choice depends on cost, access, security, and reliability. For the exit ticket, each student writes one situation where cloud storage is preferable and one where local storage is better. Homework: research a real‑world cloud service and prepare a short paragraph on its security measures.
