Lesson Plan
Grade: Date: 17/01/2026
Subject: Information Technology IT
Lesson Topic: Explore medical technology advancements
Learning Objective/s:
  • Describe the key emerging medical technologies and their primary functions.
  • Explain the benefits, challenges and ethical issues associated with each technology.
  • Analyse how data, AI and cloud analytics support medical decision‑making.
  • Evaluate the impact of these technologies on healthcare delivery and society.
  • Apply knowledge to compare technologies for a given clinical scenario.
Materials Needed:
  • Projector and screen for slides/diagrams
  • Computer with internet access
  • Printed handout summarising the technologies
  • Case‑study worksheets
  • Short video clips (wearable monitors, AI diagnostics, etc.)
  • Whiteboard and markers
Introduction:

Begin with a quick poll: “Which medical gadget have you used or seen this year?” Connect students’ experiences to the rapid growth of health tech. Review prior knowledge of basic computing concepts (data collection, algorithms). State that by the end of the lesson they will be able to describe, evaluate and compare emerging medical technologies.

Lesson Structure:
  1. Starter – Do‑now (5'): Students list three health‑tech devices they know; share briefly.
  2. Mini‑lecture with slides (12'): Overview of eight emerging technologies, highlighting function, benefits and challenges.
  3. Video showcase (8'): Short clips demonstrating wearable monitors, AI diagnostics and VR training; followed by quick Q&A.
  4. Group activity – Case study analysis (15'): Teams receive a scenario (e.g., managing diabetes remotely) and choose two technologies, justifying their choice using benefits/challenges.
  5. Whole‑class debrief (8'): Groups present findings; teacher highlights ethical considerations from the source.
  6. Check for understanding – Kahoot quiz (5'): Key concepts and terminology.
  7. Reflection (5'): Students write one “take‑away” sentence on a sticky note.
Conclusion:

Recap the main technologies and their societal impact, emphasizing the ethical questions raised. Collect exit tickets asking students to name one technology they think will most transform healthcare and why. For homework, assign a brief research task: find a recent news article on a medical technology and prepare a 2‑minute summary for the next class.
