Grade: Date: 01/12/2025
Subject: Information Communication Technology ICT
Lesson Topic: Be able to apply slide layout
Learning Objective/s:
  • Describe the purpose of slide layouts and select appropriate ones for different content.
  • Apply the Slide Master to choose and modify built‑in layouts.
  • Populate placeholders with concise text, images, or charts.
  • Adjust layout elements (size, position, fonts) to achieve visual balance and consistency.
  • Evaluate completed slides for readability and effective communication.
Materials Needed:
  • Computer with presentation software (PowerPoint, Google Slides, etc.)
  • Projector or interactive whiteboard
  • Sample presentation file for demonstration
  • Handout summarising common slide layouts
  • Whiteboard and markers
  • Internet access (optional for templates)
Introduction:

Begin with a quick question: How does the way a slide looks affect the audience’s understanding? Review that students already know how to add text and images to slides. Explain that today they will learn to use slide layouts to create clear, professional presentations, and they will be assessed by producing a five‑slide presentation that meets specific layout criteria.

Lesson Structure:
  1. Do‑now (5’) – View a poorly designed slide and identify layout issues.
  2. Mini‑lecture (10’) – Demonstrate opening Slide Master, selecting and modifying layouts.
  3. Guided practice (15’) – Whole class creates a title slide and a section header using chosen layouts.
  4. Independent activity (20’) – Students build a 5‑slide presentation meeting the practice requirements, using at least three different layouts.
  5. Peer review (10’) – Pairs present slides and give feedback using a checklist.
  6. Whole‑class reflection (5’) – Discuss common mistakes and share tips for effective layouts.
Conclusion:

Summarise how selecting appropriate layouts and adjusting placeholders enhances clarity. Ask students to write one key takeaway on a sticky note as an exit ticket. Assign homework to refine their presentation at home and upload it to the class portal for teacher feedback.
