Date: 01/12/2025 |
| Subject: Information Communication Technology ICT |
| Lesson Topic: Be able to open and import files of different types |
Learning Objective/s:
- Identify common file extensions and match them to the appropriate applications.
- Demonstrate how to open a file directly in its associated program.
- Explain the difference between opening and importing a file.
- Import various file types (image, CSV, audio) into a different application and adjust basic settings.
|
Materials Needed:
- Projector and screen
- Computer lab PCs (Windows & macOS)
- Sample files: .docx, .xlsx, .pptx, .jpg, .csv, .mp3, .zip
- USB flash drive with the sample files
- Worksheet with step‑by‑step tasks
- Whiteboard and markers
|
Introduction:
Begin with a quick poll: “What file type did you struggle to open last week?” Connect to prior learning about saving files and explain that today they will master opening and embedding files. Success criteria: students will correctly open a file and successfully import an image or data set into another program.
|
Lesson Structure:
- Do‑now (5'): Quick quiz on file extensions and associated software.
- Mini‑lecture (10'): Review common file types, extensions and the concept of opening vs. importing.
- Live demonstration (10'): Teacher opens a document, spreadsheet and image; then imports an image into Word and a CSV into Excel.
- Guided practice (15'): Students follow a worksheet to open a file and import an image into a Word document.
- Pair activity (15'): Each pair imports a CSV into Excel and an audio clip into PowerPoint, adjusting import settings.
- Check for understanding (5'): Exit ticket – write one key difference between opening and importing.
|
Conclusion:
Recap the steps for opening and importing files, highlighting common pitfalls such as wrong file associations and size limits. Collect exit tickets and remind students to complete a short homework task: import an image and a data file into a document of their choice and bring the file to the next lesson.
