| Lesson Topic: Impact of climate and human activities | |
Learning Objective/s:

Materials Needed:

Introduction: Begin with a striking image of a barren desert landscape and ask students what they think limits life there. Link to prior learning on climate zones and the water cycle, reminding them of precipitation and evapotranspiration. Explain that by the end of the lesson they will be able to describe how climate and human actions shape vegetation and soils in arid regions and justify appropriate management strategies. |
Lesson Structure:
Conclusion: Summarise how extreme water scarcity drives the unique vegetation and soil characteristics of arid zones and how human pressures can exacerbate or alleviate degradation. Ask students to complete an exit ticket stating one management strategy they would recommend for a desert community. For homework, assign a short research task to find a real‑world example of successful re‑vegetation in an arid region. |
