  • Describe the functions and limitations of SMS, traditional phone calls, VoIP, video calls, and internet access on mobile devices.
  • Compare the cost, network requirements, and data usage of each communication method.
  • Demonstrate how to set up and use a VoIP or video‑call application on a mobile device.
  • Identify security and battery considerations when using mobile communication tools.
Materials Needed:
  • Projector or interactive whiteboard
  • Sample smartphone with internet access
  • Printed worksheet with comparison table
  • Wi‑Fi connection for the classroom
  • Headphones or earbuds
  • QR codes linking to VoIP/video‑call apps
 Introduction:

Begin with a quick poll: how many students have used SMS, phone calls, or video calls on their phones today? Connect this to prior learning about basic networking and explain that today they will explore the full range of communication options on mobile devices. State that by the end of the lesson they will be able to compare these methods and safely set up a VoIP or video call.
Lesson Structure:
  1. Do‑now (5'): Students write on sticky notes the mobile communication methods they use regularly.
  2. Mini‑lecture (10'): Overview of SMS, traditional calls, VoIP, video calls, and internet access using slides and the comparison table.
  3. Demonstration (10'): Teacher shows how to place a VoIP call (e.g., WhatsApp) and a video call (e.g., Zoom) on the sample smartphone.
  4. Guided practice (15'): Pairs scan QR codes, install a VoIP app, make a short voice and video call, and record observations on the worksheet.
  5. Group discussion (10'): Compare advantages, limitations, costs, and security concerns; complete the comparison table collaboratively.
  6. Check for understanding (5'): Quick Kahoot quiz with three scenario questions.
Conclusion:

Summarise that mobile devices provide multiple communication channels, each suited to different needs and constraints. Ask students to write one key takeaway on an exit ticket and remind them to complete the worksheet homework, which includes researching safe internet practices on mobile devices.
