Lesson Plan
Grade: Date: 17/01/2026
Subject: Information Technology IT
Lesson Topic: Edit bitmap images (selection, correction, resizing)
Learning Objective/s:
  • Select specific regions of a bitmap using a range of selection tools.
  • Apply colour balance, contrast, brightness and retouching adjustments to selected areas.
  • Resize bitmap images while preserving aspect ratio and choosing appropriate interpolation methods.
  • Explain how resolution, colour depth and interpolation affect image quality and file size.
Materials Needed:
  • Computer with image‑editing software (e.g., Photoshop or GIMP)
  • Projector or interactive whiteboard
  • Sample bitmap images for practice
  • Worksheet with step‑by‑step tasks and self‑assessment questions
  • USB drive or cloud folder for saving edited files
Introduction:
Begin with a quick demonstration of a poorly edited photo to spark curiosity. Review prior knowledge of pixels, resolution and colour depth. Explain that by the end of the lesson students will be able to select, correct and resize bitmap images according to a clear success criteria.
Lesson Structure:
  1. Do‑now (5') – answer a short question on resolution vs colour depth.
  2. Mini‑lecture (10') – key concepts of bitmap images and selection tools, with visual examples.
  3. Guided practice (15') – teacher demonstrates selecting an area and applying colour balance and contrast.
  4. Independent activity (20') – students edit a provided bitmap, performing selection, correction, and resizing while the teacher circulates.
  5. Check for understanding (5') – quick quiz or exit‑ticket question from the self‑assessment list.
  6. Wrap‑up (5') – recap workflow and assign homework.
Conclusion:
Summarise the workflow from selection through correction to resizing and saving. Collect an exit ticket where each student records one key tip they learned. For homework, students edit a personal photograph applying all steps and submit before‑and‑after files.
