Lesson Plan
Grade: Date: 01/12/2025
Subject: Information Communication Technology ICT
Lesson Topic: Know and understand output formats including screen layouts and report layouts
Learning Objective/s:
  • Describe the key components of screen layouts and report layouts.
  • Explain design considerations such as consistency, accessibility, and device constraints.
  • Apply layout principles to create a wireframe for a screen and a template for a report.
  • Evaluate a given layout for usability and compliance with ICT standards.
Materials Needed:
  • Projector or interactive whiteboard
  • Sample screen layout wireframes (digital or printed)
  • Sample report template (printed)
  • Worksheets for layout analysis
  • Laptops with diagramming software (e.g., draw.io)
  • Whiteboard and markers
Introduction:

Begin with a quick recall question about the Systems Life Cycle to activate prior knowledge. Explain that today’s focus is on how the design phase determines the way information is presented to users. Share the success criteria: students will be able to identify, design, and critique both screen and report layouts.

Lesson Structure:
  1. Do‑now (5'): Quiz on SLC phases and their purpose.
  2. Mini‑lecture (10'): Introduce screen vs. report layouts, highlighting components and design considerations.
  3. Guided analysis (15'): In small groups, examine provided wireframes and identify each component; teacher circulates to check understanding.
  4. Hands‑on activity (15'): Students create a simple screen layout and a matching report template using laptops; peers give feedback using a checklist.
  5. Plenary & exit ticket (5'): Share selected designs, recap key points, and complete an exit ticket describing one improvement for each layout.
Conclusion:

Review the main differences between screen and report layouts and how they support user needs. Collect exit tickets to gauge individual understanding and identify any misconceptions. Assign homework: redesign a familiar website’s homepage or a school report using the principles discussed.
