Lesson Plan
Grade: Date: 25/02/2026
Subject: Information Communication Technology ICT
Lesson Topic: Know and understand planning ICT solutions that are responsive to and respectful of the needs of an audience
Learning Objective/s:
  • Describe the purpose of audience analysis in ICT solution planning.
  • Identify key audience characteristics and explain how they influence design decisions.
  • Apply audience‑centred planning steps to develop a user‑focused ICT solution.
  • Evaluate designs for accessibility, privacy, cultural sensitivity, and legal compliance.
  • Produce documentation (personas, checklists) that shows how the solution meets audience needs.
Materials Needed:
  • Projector and screen
  • Whiteboard and markers
  • Audience‑analysis worksheet / persona template (printed)
  • Laptops or tablets with internet access
  • Sample survey tool (e.g., Google Forms) demo
  • Printed case study: School Homework Portal
  • Sticky notes and coloured pens
Introduction:

Begin with a quick think‑pair‑share: “Who uses the app you use most and why?” Connect this to students’ prior experience of designing for users. Explain that today they will learn how to plan ICT solutions that respect audience needs, and they will be able to create personas, design sketches, and a checklist by the end of the lesson.

Lesson Structure:
  1. Do‑Now (5'): Students discuss audience of a favourite app and record key traits on sticky notes.
  2. Mini‑lecture (10'): Teacher presents audience concepts, characteristics, and why they matter (age, skill level, culture, accessibility, legal/ethical).
  3. Group Activity – Persona Creation (15'): Using the printed template, groups develop a persona for one audience group of the homework portal (e.g., primary‑school student).
  4. Design Sprint (10'): Groups sketch UI elements (layout, language, colour) that address the persona’s needs and note accessibility considerations.
  5. Whole‑class Share & Checklist Review (5'): Groups present sketches; teacher guides a quick review against the audience‑responsive checklist.
Conclusion:

Recap the importance of audience analysis and the steps taken today. For the exit ticket, each student writes one design change that improves accessibility for their persona. Homework: complete a brief audience analysis (survey questions, persona, and design notes) for an ICT solution of their choice.
