Lesson Plan
Grade: Date: 25/02/2026
Subject: Geography
Lesson Topic: Aid: types, sources, impacts, evaluation
Learning Objective/s:
  • Describe the main types of aid (humanitarian, development, financial, tied/untied, bilateral, multilateral, NGO).
  • Identify the principal sources of aid and the typical forms they provide.
  • Analyse both positive and negative impacts of aid on developing economies.
  • Evaluate aid effectiveness using economic, social and governance criteria.
Materials Needed:
  • Projector and laptop for slides
  • PowerPoint presentation summarising aid types and sources
  • Printed handout with the evaluation checklist table
  • World map or digital GIS view of aid‑receiving regions
  • Worksheet with case‑study questions
  • Sticky notes for quick brainstorming
Introduction:
Begin with a short video clip showing disaster relief in action to hook interest. Ask students what they already know about aid and how it differs from charity. Explain that by the end of the lesson they will be able to classify aid types, trace its sources, assess impacts and critically evaluate its overall effectiveness.
Lesson Structure:
  1. Do‑Now (5'): Students list examples of aid they have heard of on sticky notes; share and group into categories.
  2. Direct Instruction (10'): Teacher presents slide deck on types and sources of aid, highlighting key examples.
  3. Guided Practice (12'): In pairs, students fill a two‑column table matching aid types with their typical sources.
  4. Impact Analysis (10'): Whole‑class discussion of positive vs negative impacts using the source’s bullet lists; teacher records ideas on board.
  5. Evaluation Activity (12'): Small groups use the provided evaluation checklist to assess a brief case study, then justify their rating.
  6. Check for Understanding (5'): Quick quiz (Kahoot or show of hands) on key concepts.
  7. Transition to Conclusion (1'): Summarise main take‑aways.
Conclusion:
Recap the four pillars of aid evaluation and ask students to share one insight they found surprising. Collect an exit ticket where each pupil writes one way aid could be improved. Assign homework: read a short article on South‑South cooperation and prepare a one‑paragraph response linking it to today’s lesson.
