Lesson Plan
Grade: IGCSE (Year 10) Date: 17/01/2026
Subject: French
Lesson Topic: Clothes and accessories
Learning Objective/s:
  • Identify and name common clothing and accessory items in French.
  • Apply correct gender, plural forms and adjective agreement in descriptions.
  • Construct full sentences describing what a person is wearing using appropriate expressions.
  • Complete typical IGCSE exam tasks (reading, writing, speaking) on this topic with accuracy.
Materials Needed:
  • Projector or interactive whiteboard
  • Printed vocabulary handout (French/English list)
  • Adjective‑agreement worksheet
  • Picture diagram of three outfits for description activity
  • Audio clip of a shopping dialogue
  • Flashcards for matching game
  • Whiteboard and markers
Introduction:

Show a colourful photograph of three people in different outfits and ask, “What are they wearing?” Connect this to students’ prior knowledge of clothing vocabulary. Explain that by the end of the lesson they will be able to name items, use correct gender/plural, and produce a short description in French. Success criteria are displayed on the board.

Lesson Structure:
  1. Do‑now (5’) – Matching French clothing words to pictures on the board.
  2. Vocabulary input (10’) – Teacher presents the vocabulary table; students fill handout and practise pronunciation.
  3. Adjective agreement mini‑lecture (8’) – Explain placement and gender/number agreement with examples.
  4. Adjective‑agreement race (12’) – Pairs correct noun‑adjective pairs on a worksheet as quickly as possible.
  5. Describe the picture (15’) – Students write a paragraph describing one of the outfit diagrams, using at least six items and four adjectives; peer‑check for agreement.
  6. Role‑play shop (10’) – Using the provided price list and useful expressions, students act as shop assistant and customer.
  7. Exam‑task simulation (15’) – Timed writing prompt (80‑100 words) followed by peer review of gender, plural and adjective placement.
  8. Recap & exit ticket (5’) – Whole‑class recap; each student writes one sentence describing what they are wearing today in French.
Conclusion:

Review the key points: vocabulary, gender/plural rules, and adjective agreement. Collect exit tickets and confirm that each student can produce a correct sentence about their own outfit. For homework, students write an 80‑100‑word description of their favourite outfit, using at least five adjectives and three different clothing items.
