Date: 01/12/2025 |
| Subject: Information Communication Technology ICT |
| Lesson Topic: Know and understand characteristics of input and output devices |
Learning Objective/s:
- Describe the main characteristics of input devices (data type, speed, accuracy, ergonomics, connectivity).
- Explain the key features of output devices (output type, resolution, speed, colour depth, connectivity).
- Compare input and output devices in terms of function, data flow and performance metrics.
- Evaluate appropriate input and output device choices for different user scenarios.
|
Materials Needed:
- Projector or interactive whiteboard
- Computer with internet access
- Sample input devices (keyboard, mouse, scanner, microphone)
- Sample output devices (monitor, printer, speakers)
- Handouts/worksheets with device comparison tables
- Slide presentation
- Whiteboard and markers
|
Introduction:
Start with a quick poll: “What device did you use to send this message?” to activate prior knowledge of input devices. Briefly recap the three hardware categories (input, processing, output) and state that by the end of the lesson students will be able to identify and justify key characteristics of both input and output devices.
|
Lesson Structure:
- Do‑Now (5') – Students list as many input and output devices as they can on sticky notes; teacher clusters them on the board.
- Mini‑lecture (10') – Overview of hardware categories and key characteristics of input devices, using slides and real‑world examples.
- Guided exploration (12') – Small groups examine sample input devices and record speed, accuracy, ergonomics, and connectivity on a worksheet.
- Mini‑lecture (10') – Characteristics of output devices illustrated with a projector and sample outputs.
- Comparison activity (10') – Groups complete a Venn diagram comparing input vs. output metrics; teacher circulates to address misconceptions.
- Whole‑class debrief (8') – Discuss findings, highlight common connectivity and ergonomic considerations.
- Exit ticket (5') – Students write one important characteristic of an input device and one of an output device.
|
Conclusion:
We reviewed how input devices translate real‑world data into digital form and how output devices render digital information for users. Students complete a worksheet comparing two devices of their choice as homework and be ready to share their analysis in the next lesson.
