Lesson Plan
Grade: 7 Date: 25/02/2026
Subject: Information Communication Technology ICT
Lesson Topic: Be able to apply font styles including font face, type (serif, sans-serif), point size, colour
Learning Objective/s:
  • Identify and differentiate between serif and sans‑serif font families.
  • Select appropriate point sizes for headings, body text, and footnotes.
  • Apply font colour deliberately to enhance readability and convey meaning.
  • Use word‑processing tools (Word, Google Docs) to create and save custom text styles.
Materials Needed:
  • Computer lab with internet access
  • Projector and screen
  • Microsoft Word and Google Docs installed
  • Sample flyer template (printed)
  • Handout summarising font style guidelines
  • Whiteboard and markers
Introduction:

Begin with a quick visual poll: show two versions of the same paragraph—one in a serif font and one in a sans‑serif font—and ask students which looks easier to read on screen. Review prior knowledge of basic text formatting (font, size, colour) and explain that today they will learn how to choose and apply styles purposefully. Success will be measured by their ability to produce a correctly styled flyer by the end of the lesson.

Lesson Structure:
  1. Do‑Now (5') – Students compare printed and on‑screen text samples and note differences in readability.
  2. Mini‑lecture (10') – Explain font families, serif vs sans‑serif, point size conventions, and colour contrast, using projector slides.
  3. Demonstration (10') – Teacher models applying a complete style in Microsoft Word, then repeats in Google Docs.
  4. Guided Practice (15') – Pairs format a provided paragraph, selecting appropriate font face, size, and colour, with teacher circulating for feedback.
  5. Independent Activity (20') – Students create a one‑page flyer for a school event, following the style checklist.
  6. Peer Review (10') – Pairs exchange flyers, use the checklist to verify correct font choices and contrast, and give one improvement suggestion.
  7. Whole‑class recap (5') – Review key decisions and answer any lingering questions.
Conclusion:

Summarise the main criteria for choosing font face, size, and colour, emphasizing readability and purpose. Ask each student to write one takeaway on a sticky note as an exit ticket. For homework, they will redesign a classroom announcement using the styles learned.
