Introduction:
Begin with a quick poll: Which well‑known brands do you think operate as franchises, joint ventures or social enterprises? Recall previous lessons on business structures and profit motives. Today we will explore three distinct organisational forms and identify their key characteristics, using a comparison chart to guide our learning. By the end of the lesson you will be able to explain and compare these forms against set criteria.
Lesson Structure:
  1. Do‑now (5'): Students list examples of businesses they know and classify them; share answers. (5')
  2. Mini‑lecture (15'): Teacher presents definitions and key features of franchises, joint ventures, social enterprises using slides. (15')
  3. Guided analysis (10'): Work through the comparison table, fill missing information in handouts. (10')
  4. Group activity (15'): Small groups receive a scenario; decide which organisational form best fits and justify. (15')
  5. Whole‑class debrief (10'): Groups present decisions; teacher highlights advantages/disadvantages and corrects misconceptions. (10')
  6. Quick quiz (5'): Exit ticket – three short questions on differences. (5')
Conclusion:
Summarise the main similarities and differences we identified across the three forms. Collect the exit tickets to check understanding, and remind students that the next lesson will involve creating a mock business plan using one of these structures. For homework, research a local business and determine which organisational form it uses, noting at least two supporting reasons.
